While surfing the web several months ago I entered a website that attached itself to my desktop. I have tried everything to remove them but to no avail. I am running XP Home. Nnothing is affected by these icons, however they are of some porn nature, not the icon rather the title. When I right click the icon I see Open EDIT PREVIEW PRINT OPEN WITH and SEND TO.Delete is not an option None of these functions do anything.
I even downloaded a REGCURE ing happened. It almost seems to act like a ghost. How do I get ride of something like this?
Apr 23, 2009 - Use freeware Delete Doctor utility to lock and delete the files on reboot. To delete undeletable folders, try Unlocker instead. If they are leftover icons after un-installing a program, install the program again, delete the desktop icons and then uninstall the program. Can't right click taskbar icons: I can't right click taskbar apps, left click works as it should but not the right click. Also left clicking start button won't open start menu, right click works on this one as it works on other system icons (volume, network, clock and notification) but not the left click. I have moved a file via my cell phone from my work computer to my home laptop. I was able to delete the contents of the file however, I can not delete the folder. It is stuck to my desktop forever. This is a huge problem for me as I do not like icons on my desktop!
Yes I did Scott I tried almost everything. I have read all the responses you replied to Tomweed about 9 months ago. When I got to the cmd prompts none of the methods you listed seemed to work for me. All of the attempted commands resulted in improper or unrecognizable. Tomweed's issues are exactly like mine when you go to destop in explorer, or the safe mode the icons are are not there. When searching for the item it says it is in folder C:Documents and settingsOwner Destop.
Desktop Icon Won't Delete
The file name is realy long just as Tomweed's was the item startrs out as '!BEST FARRAH! NUDE AWESOME'.and much much more follows. Thanks I will await your response and assistance. Well, you have done a good job of searching. It took me a little while to find from nine(!) months ago.
Despite the age of it, the advice is still good, so let's try the command line on your file, too.Open a Command Prompt window from Start - All Programs - Accessories. The commands I'm giving you must be entered.exactly. as written, so the best thing to do is copy the command from here and paste it in the Command Prompt window. To paste, right-click in the window and select Paste from the context menu. There is one command per line and you press the Enter key after the line to run the command. Here goes:cd dir '!BEST'. /a /sThis command could take a while since it is searching the whole C: volume for any file that starts with!BEST.
Since you already have the results of the search, we will probably see that the file is in C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktop but it never hurts to double check. Let's assume that this directory is precisely the one and you are ready to delete the file. Here are the commands to do that:cd 'Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktop'del /f '!BEST'.If something goes wrong, you can copy and paste the commands and results in a new post so that I can analyze it. Right-click in the Command Prompt window, choose 'Select All' from the sub-menu, then press the Enter key. This puts the whole session in the clipboard and you can paste it here in a new post with Ctrl-V.
2.Determine the types of icons you would like to delete. A desktop icon can be a shortcut that points to a file on your hard drive or an icon that represents an actual file, folder or program. If you delete a shortcut icon, you will not delete the file, folder or program associated with that icon.
However, if you delete an icon that represents an actual file, you will delete that item. It is important to determine if you want to delete shortcut icons or icons that represent real items. You can identify a shortcut icon by looking for a small blue arrow in the icon's lower-left corner.
